Deoghar, located in Jharkhand, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage destinations in India. It is home to the Baba Baidyanath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. Approximately 330 km from Kolkata, Deoghar is famous for the Sravani Mela, where millions of devotees (Kanwariyas) carry holy Ganga water from Sultanganj to offer at the temple. Beyond its religious significance, Deoghar offers beautiful natural sites like Trikut Pahar and historical caves like Tapovan.

The route from Kolkata to Deoghar follows the high-speed NH19 until Asansol. This section is a smooth 4-6 lane expressway with ample amenities. After Asansol, the route enters Jharkhand and becomes a mix of two-lane and four-lane state highways passing through Jamtara and Sarath. The landscape changes from industrial plains to the rolling, greener terrain of Jharkhand. The road quality from Asansol to Deoghar is generally good but requires more careful driving due to local traffic. During the Sravani Mela (July-August), traffic diversions are common near Deoghar to accommodate the Kanwariyas, which can add significant time to the journey.
