Every car rental quote from Barakah Travels for Kolkata to Mousuni Island includes toll charges on Diamond Harbour Road, ghat parking fees at Namkhana, fuel, and driver allowance. A 5 AM start for a Mousuni Island day trip or a 4 PM Friday start for an overnight camp both require a driver who comes to your exact location on time. Our drivers come to your home, office, or hotel address in Kolkata or Howrah — no depot pickup, no coordination at a meeting point.
The driver parks at Namkhana Ghat and waits while your group is on the island. When you return from Mousuni, the vehicle is ready. For overnight visits, the driver returns at the agreed pickup time the next morning. No arranging a separate return vehicle from the island side.
The most common Mousuni Island trip problem is arriving at Namkhana Ghat without enough cash for the boat fare and camp payment. Our drivers remind your group at the Diamond Harbour or Kakdwip ATM stop. This simple advisory has saved dozens of groups from a very avoidable problem.
Every car is comprehensively insured and regularly serviced. For a trip that ends with your group getting into a country boat and leaving the vehicle for 24 hours, you want a vehicle that the driver is confident in and that is not going to have a breakdown on Diamond Harbour Road on the way back.
Mousuni Island is a small, largely undeveloped delta island in South 24 Parganas — located at the mouth of the Chemaguri channel where the Muriganga river meets the Bay of Bengal. Accessible from Kolkata in approximately 3.5 to 4 hours by road to Namkhana Ghat followed by a short boat crossing, Mousuni has emerged as Kolkata's favourite off-grid weekend escape — with wide, deserted beaches, simple beach camps, fresh seafood, and a raw island atmosphere that stands in complete contrast to the commercialised beaches of Digha or Mandarmani.

The Kolkata to Mousuni Island route follows Diamond Harbour Road (SH 117) southward — the same road used for Gangasagar trips — through the outer districts of Kolkata, past Budge Budge, Diamond Harbour on the Hooghly estuary, and down through the delta landscape of Kakdwip and Namkhana to the Namkhana Ghat. The road is a mix of 2-lane and 4-lane sections, fully motorable for all vehicle types from sedans to 45-seater buses. Road quality is adequate throughout though the sections through Budge Budge and Amtala can be slow with local traffic during weekday mornings. The landscape becomes increasingly delta-like and rural past Diamond Harbour — flat, wide-skied, and noticeably different from the rest of West Bengal. At Namkhana Ghat, country boats (locally called bhutbhuti or trawler boats) make the crossing to Mousuni Island. The crossing takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on tide and boat type. Boats depart when enough passengers have assembled — not on a fixed schedule — though private boat hire is available for groups wanting guaranteed departure times.

Peak Season
October to February
15°C to 28°C
The best time to visit Mousuni Island. Cool, dry weather makes the beach camping experience genuinely comfortable. The sea is calm, the sky is clear, and the sunrises are exceptional. November to January is the peak camping season. October and February are slightly less crowded but equally pleasant. Book vehicles and camps at least 2 to 3 weeks in advance for weekend visits during this window.
Avoid / Monsoon
May to September
Monsoon makes the boat crossing dangerous and Chemaguri beach inaccessible during rough weather. The island's tidal creeks flood significantly. Most camps close during monsoon. Not recommended for any group trips during this window.
